Like any mobile entrepreneur, I have obviously been passionate about my iPhone app idea since the day I created the first prototype over four years ago.  But now that the Brainscape platform has been developed and refined, and now that my experimentation with the app(s) has progressed from mere “testing” to actual usage, my enthusiasm for my company’s product has been taken to a whole new level.

I currently have Brainscape apps on my iPhone to help me learn more about food, booze, vocabulary, geography, and Italian phrases.  This last category has been the most significant for me so far since I had the opportunity to improve my language skills during my trip to Italy this past week. Although the 415 intelligent flashcards I manually entered & uploaded did not have nice formatting or audio recordings like our professionally created apps for Spanish, they were particularly effective because they represented content that I really wanted to learn.

Such a revelation conforms to the age-old entrepreneurial wisdom that you should always create a product that you want for yourself.  Not only does this help you design and market it more effectively, but it also helps you better understand and prioritize new features that your customers might want.  I, personally, would love to be able to create my own new flashcards right on my phone, and to search an online dictionary for words that cannot be found on my device – and I plan to turn these personal preferences into a reality with my app.

If you are a Brainscape user, you can rest assured that the company’s CEO and product manager are on your side.  Please feel free to share your own thoughts for product improvements and/or your experiences being a user of your own app!
